Description
Two years ago today, much of northeastern Colorado was declared to be in a State of Emergency following the Colorado Flood Event of 2013. In response to that event—five consecutive days of rainfall and subsequent widespread flooding—groups of spontaneous volunteers emerged around a common cause: neighbors helping neighbors. Boulder Flood Relief (BFR) was one of these groups that promoted mutual aid in the community by engaging in voluntary acts of exchange: leveraging resources, activating social networks, and implementing various forms of expertise towards the mutual recovery and benefit of those affected by disaster.
To commemorate the anniversary of the flood—and to celebrate the work of those who showed up with “boots on the ground” and shovels in hand—we are publishing an After-Action Report created and compiled by Tiernan Doyle, Executive Director of BFR.
